The Conversation Cloud, a feature identifying the current most popular discussions on The Economist Online, is launched today. The Conversation Cloud, supported by Logica throughout Europe, aggregates readers' opinions on different subjects taken from comments posted on articles, blogs and debates on The Economist Online. Popular topics of conversation are presented as part of a cloud, giving users easy access to live discussions. Developed with Jodange, a company that specializes in sentiment analysis, the Conversation Cloud is a first for a major media owner.
The Economist Online now receives an average of 25,000 comments every month, with readers' contributions as often in response to comments left by other readers as to the publication's editorial.
"The idea of the Conversation Cloud is to allow readers to better navigate through conversations, and to encourage and facilitate intellectual conversation between readers," said Ron Diorio, VP, Product and Community Development of The Economist. "Making The Economist Online more social is part of the site's transformation into the global hub for intelligent debate and discussion. Readers from all parts of the world regularly come together on The Economist Online to have their horizons stretched and their thinking sharpened. The Economist ignites their thinking."
Amanda Mesler, Chief Client Officer, Logica, said: "The Conversation Cloud is the perfect way for readers to get involved in the issues facing businesses and the world today - it's about getting voices heard. Logica is excited to be partnering with The Economist to spark conversations that will inspire and change the way people engage with content."
